Dallas Cowboys To Locate World HQ + Training Facility in Frisco!

Although I’m from Philadelphia and grew up rooting for the Eagles, I’m thrilled that the Dallas Cowboys have chosen my adopted hometown of Frisco for their new world headquarters and indoor practice facility.

There are lots of reasons that this is a great thing for Frisco:

—It’s great publicity for Frisco — which is already the fastest-growing city in the country from 2000-2009 (according to U.S. Census Bureau statistics) and named one of the top 100 places to live in the United States by Money magazine.

—It will strengthen Frisco’s reputation for sports — joining FC Dallas, the Frisco RoughRiders, Dr Pepper Arena, the Dallas StarCenter Frisco, and other pro and amateur teams and venues.

—It will bring increased tax revenue to the city, which it can use to maintain our infrastructure as the city grows.

—It will attract more businesses in the surrounding areas, meaning more jobs and more money being spent in Frisco.

—It will bring football fans and tourists to training camp, leading to more money being spent here.

And for us folks with real estate on the brain, here are four more reasons this is big news:

—Increased local and regional real estate values and prices.

—More construction projects will likely be started by builders.

—More people will want to move here (as this strengthens Frisco’s reputation as a great place to live and raise a family).

—Community involvement from the team — they already have an agreement where Frisco ISD can use the facilities for high school football and soccer games, graduation ceremonies, band competitions and other events; and the city of Frisco can use the facility up to 6 times a year for events.

It’s safe to say that Frisco is looking forward to the facility’s opening in 2016 — and the benefits of a 25-year agreement with the Cowboys!

Why I Love #Frisco (Texas)

There’s a bumper-sticker saying for people like me — ”I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!” (Available for purchase here and here.)

Both my husband and I are from Northeast Philadelphia, but in 2006 we were looking for new opportunities in a warmer climate. But California and Florida seemed too expensive, and my husband landed a job with a company in Texas.

So we moved here, and we love the Texas heat — and even more, the mild winters. (For example, I wrote this in early December when it was still 80 degrees!)

We first lived in east Plano, then west Plano, and then Little Elm. But after a few years here, we looked around and determined that we liked Frisco — for a lot of reasons:

Location, location, location.
Frisco is located about 30 miles north of Dallas, and close to major highways that get you anywhere throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex in about an hour. It’s 4 hours north of Austin or to Galveston, where many cruise lines do business. Also, it’s an hour or two from a couple casinos in Oklahoma — Winstar (Thackerville, OK) and Choctaw (Durant, OK).

A developing city with growth opportunities.
Over the past couple decades, Frisco has enjoyed huge economic and population growth. And why not? Home prices are much more affordable, and the cost of living here compares very favorably to the East Coast and the West Coast.

Fun for the whole family…for real.
Yes, plenty of suburbs claim to be “a great place for families.” But with top-rated schools, unique schools and programs for music, dance, art and even cooking, and every sport you can think of (see below), there’s never a dull moment.

The Frisco Discovery Center has some amazing programs. And even the Museum of the American Railroad is moving here!

Every level of athletic competition.
Texas is famous for its love of sports — and no matter your game, age or skill level, you’ll find your game being played here.

There’s the usual sports like football, baseball, soccer, basketball and yes, hockey in Texas (the Stonebriar Centre has a rink in the middle of the mall!). Plus, more specialized competitions such as gymnastics, equestrian and even bicycle racing at the Superdrome. You’ll even see cricket and rugby being played at public parks.

And if you’re more of a fan than a participant, you’ve got plenty of options as well. Right in Frisco, there’s FC Dallas Stadium (home to our MLS franchise) and Dr Pepper Ballpark, where the Frisco RoughRiders play minor league baseball. Plenty of Texas Rangers made their way through Frisco before becoming big stars!
